When Brazilian-born, Montreal-based electronic musician Amon Tobin set out to create the album “Foley Room” named for the places where sound effects are recorded for films, he didn't hunker down in a studio.
Armed with high-sensitivity mikes, he headed out into the world. Tobin recorded everything from insects to motorbikes and neighbours singing in the bath.
He then twisted and gnarled all of those samples, and sculpted them into beats and this album has been nominated for instrumental album of the year.
Interesting.
